(Saskatoon, SK- October 21, 2022) – The Saskatchewan Outstanding Young Farmers (OYF) Region is preparing to host Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers’ National Event which will take place at the Delta Bessborough Hotel in Saskatoon, SK from Nov 23-27,2022.

Saskatchewan OYF regional chair, Derek Axten states, “We hope you will enjoy the event as we share some agricultural advancements as well as take you back to our roots.  We look forward to discovering new technologies at the U of S, Brandt Manufacturing and John Deere, while also exploring our history at Wanuskewin Heritage Park under the ‘Land of the Living Skies’.”

Every year this event brings recognition to outstanding farm couples in Canada between 18 and 39 years of age who have exemplified excellence in their profession while fostering better urban-rural relations. Seven entrepreneurial farm couples from across Canada chosen from their home regions will present highlights of their operations at the National Event on Friday November 25.

This year’s regional honourees are:

Ben Campbell- Tullichewan Ranch at Black Diamond, AB

Cody Straza & Allison Squires- Upland Organics at Wood Mountain, SK

Richard & Kristy-Layne Carr- Rich Lane Farms at Marchand, MB

David & Jennifer VanDeVelde- Wholesome Pickins Market & Bakery- Delhi, ON

Guillaume & Etienne Lessard- Ferme Holdream Inc- St Honore de Shenley, QC

Morgan & Karissa Smallman- J&J Farms, Alberton PE

 

“It’s so exciting to be back to an in-person event. I can’t wait to catch up with everyone. We will bring the regional winners to Saskatchewan and in OYF tradition they will start to build relationships and forge new friendships. The regional winners will also tell their stories and share their incredible passion for agriculture with all attending”, states COYF President Steve Cooper.

Celebrating 42 years, Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers’ program is an annual competition to recognize farmers that exemplify excellence in their profession and promote the tremendous contribution of agriculture. Open to participants 18 to 39 years of age, making the majority of income from on-farm sources, participants are selected from seven regions across Canada, with two national winners chosen each year. The program is sponsored nationally by CIBC, John Deere, Bayer, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Sollio Agriculture and CN; our media partners, Glacier FarmMedia and WS and supported nationally by BDO.
