Intermiel
Originally from Picardy in northern France, Viviane and Christian Macle, two teachers by trade, moved to Quebec in 1969. In 1976, Christian, who had been passionate about beekeeping since childhood, bought a small farm in the Saint-Benoît (Mirabel) area, which the couple transformed into a beekeeping farm. At the time, they owned about a hundred hives.
In the 1980s, they officially launched a range of honey products. This visionary couple, driven by their passion for beekeeping and their talent as educators, decided to introduce visitors to the wonderful world of bees and opened a small beekeeping shop. Over the years, the Macle family continued to expand their business, opening their doors to visitors all year round and diversifying their products. In the 1990s, they began producing mead, maple brandy and ice cider.
Today, Intermiel is a major farm, managing the production of 5,000 beehives, operating a 14,000-tap maple bush and an orchard of 600 apple trees. The Macle family can boast of producing a range of 100% Quebec honeys from their own hives, backed up by a traceability program. Intermiel is renowned throughout the province and across North America for the quality and diversification of its products, as well as for its educational activities. Thanks to its agri-tourism vocation, it welcomes over 100,000 visitors every year, including 15,000 students from schools across the province. https://intermiel.com/en/
Ferme Blondin
There are 1,000 head of cattle, including 220 cows, at Ferme Blondin, owned by Simon Lalande. Milked twice a day in a milking parlour, the farm produces an average of 11,000 kg of milk a year, with 4.5% fat and 3.2% protein. They also grow soya, grain corn, silage corn and hay on 1500 acres. Simon has 4 children, Olivier, who owns his own dairy farm with his wife Honorine, Nicolas, who is a partner with them in Blondin Sires, and twins Thomas and Anthony, who are very involved on the farm and are eagerly awaiting the completion of their studies to join the family business.
Legends in the show ring as well as in breeding, these 7th generation breeders have earned 6 exhibitor banners at The Royal and have bred several internationally renowned cows, not to mention their 2 EX-97 cows: BLONDIN REDMAN SEISME EX-97 2E USA 4* and BLONDIN GOLDWYN SUBLIMINALE EX-97-4E-USA. At Ferme Blondin, the titles kept coming: Grand Champion, All-Quebec, All-Canadian, All-American, Cow of the Year… They also won their first Master Breeder title in 2002, then a second in 2016, the same year they launched Blondin Sires. With breeding at heart, they started this business with their partner Dann Brady, with the aim of offering sires from deep pedigrees and good bloodlines. They focus on sires that combine high conformation genomics with production and balanced health & fertility traits to produce durable cows. https://www.fermeblondin.com/en/
Ô sucre cabane champêtre Sugar Shanty
New owner Éric Plasse and his team have skillfully preserved the unique character and historic beauty of this establishment, which celebrates its 50th anniversary next year. Inaugurated in 1971, the cabin was built in what was once a barn used to raise cattle, and to which was added the large room that housed the Maple Museum in the Canada Pavilion at Expo 1967 in Montreal. The woodwork, like the various elements of the decor, is a reminder of this history and helps to create a very warm atmosphere
