Churchbridge, SK (Sept 8, 2022) – Kate Axten of Minton, SK and Darby Goetz of Mildmay,  ON have been selected as the Outstanding Young Farmers Memorial Scholarship winners for 2022. Each winner has received a $1,000 scholarship to support their post-secondary agricultural education.

Kate Axten attributes her love of agriculture to her parents but her real love is food so she will attend University of Dalhousie to study International Food Business this fall. She wants to gain an understanding of the global food industry from farm to consumers’ plate. For Kate, food is a way that agriculture impacts people.

Darby Goetz feels that agriculture is full of learning opportunities. Being raised on a farm has built her confidence and taught her to respect nature and the animals. She will continue her Diploma of Veterinary Technology at the University of Guelph this fall in order to provide quality care to animals and to contribute to the agriculture industry.

The award includes two annual scholarships – one to an individual who has completed at least one year of post-secondary study in agriculture, and the other to someone who has completed high school and is enrolling in a post-secondary education in agriculture. As part of the application process, applicants are asked to write an essay about why they are passionate about agriculture in Canada.
